Evolve wins the Best of Show award at E3

WE SAW dozens of great wallet tempting games announced at E3, but finally we know what the experts think were the best.

THE Video Game Critics Awards were announced today, tallying the picks for 17 different categories from 29 publications, including IGN.

Evolve, Turtle Rock’s competitive shooter, won the most votes for Best of Show, as well as Best Console Game, Best Online Multiplayer and Best Action Game.

The following is the complete list of awards:

Best of Show: Evolve

Best Original Game: No Man’s Sky

Best Console Game: Evolve

Best Handheld/Mobile Game: Super Smash Bros. for 3DS

Best PC Game: Tim Clancy’s Rainbow Six: Siege

Best Hardware/Peripheral: Oculus Rift

Best Action Game: Evolve

Best Role-Playing Game: Dragon Age: Inquisition

Best Fighting Game: Super Smash Bros. for Wii U

Best Racing Game: The Crew

Best Sports Game: NHL 15

Best Strategy Game: Civilization: Beyond Earth

Best Social/Casual/Family Game: Mario Maker

Best Online Multiplayer: Evolve

Best Independent Game: No Man’s Sky

Special Commendation for Innovation: No Man’s Sky

During E3 earlier this month, IGN had the chance to hunt down Turtle Rock’s newly announced enemy, the Kraken. Contrary to several of the other monsters we’ve faced, the Kraken foregoes close-quarters combat in favour of ranged attacks —— it can fly, after all.

Independent developer Hello Games’ No Man’s Sky, the procedurally generated exploration game, also gathered a couple of awards, as well as a special commendation for innovation. Following the game’s E3 demo, IGN sat down with designer Sean Murray to discuss what makes the game so different, and how a 4-person team created it.
