Telstra customers report woeful internet speeds for Apple devices and sites
TELSTRA customers with Apple devices have taken to social media in desperation over a network glitch that has turned their last few days into a dismal internet crawl.
IF you are a Telstra customer and you use Apple devices, chances are your last few days have been horrible.
Telstra customers have taken to social media to complain of dismally low speeds when connecting to Apple sites or using their devices to do something as simple as download an app from the App Store.
Disclaimer: I’m a Telstra customer with an Apple device and I feel the pain. This morning I set out to download an 80Mb app from the app store. More than five minutes later, I had achieved that goal. Five minutes! And I’m a Telstra cable customer.
Some Apple users have tried turning off their home wi-fi and connected to the internet through their mobile phone but that has not avoided whatever the issue is that is slowing down communication between the Telstra service and the Apple network.
The timing for Telstra is not good, with many customers trying to set up their new iPhone 6S phones and trying to install the latest Mac operating system.
Telstra customers have taken to Twitter to complain of the problem, with some saying they have experienced the slow speeds for days.
Telstra has issued an updated statement:
“Arrangements have been made to re-route traffic away from the affected subsea cable and as a result the immediate issues impacting customers have been addressed. We will continue to work to ensure the impact does not return. We thank our customers for their patience and apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
It follows an earlier statement which identified the cause of the problem:
“We are experiencing issues with an undersea cable connecting Australia with Singapore. As a result, some customers are experiencing slow service when using mobile devices to download or update apps, or stream music from some providers.
“We are working to resolve this issue as quickly as possible, including utilising alternative paths while repairs are undertaken. We apologise for any inconvenience caused and as soon as we have an update on the current situation we will let our customers know.”
@ericlindsay Okay, we have had some issues with the speeds from the Apple Site, but we have engineers working on it, so hopefully fixed now.

@Telstra what’s going on with connectivity to Apple servers? iTunes, App Store, Apple Music, everything is SO SLOW. Has been or days now.

Whole morning talking to Telstra and then Apple. Conclusion: my network isn't connecting to Apple's servers. Solution: Who knows?
— Neil Richards (@neilrich75) September 30, 2015@Telstra every time I downloading apps on App Store on 4g or BigPond it's takes for ever
— dazz (@Killsmart777) September 30, 2015@Telstra just reporting in again. Performance to iTunes and the App Store are still appalling today. Weeks to download El Cap on cable atm

@Telstra thanks for looking into it but it’s still not working. Something is majorly wrong with the connection to the App Store.
