Deebot X11 OmniCyclone review: Is this $3k robot vacuum worth it?
Meet the Ferrari of robot vacuums: Ecovacs' new premium cleaner boasts four-wheel drive, AI smarts and industrial-strength suction power. VIDEO
If there is such a thing as a turbocharged, four-wheel-drive of robotic vacuum cleaners and mops, this is it.
Ecovacs Robotics’ Deebot X11 OmniCyclone is not only more powerful but thanks to a breakthrough in recharging it can now do a much bigger home on a single run.
During mop washing breaks between cycles, the Deebot X11 applies quick bursts of Gallium Nitride (GaN) charging, adding about 6% of power in about three minutes.
Ecovacs says that allows for uninterrupted cleaning coverage up to 1000㎡.
The smart and powerful vacuum and mopping bot also has an adaptive four wheel drive system to ensure it can climb over single thresholds as high as 2.4cm and various thresholds up to 4cm high.
But most importantly, it cleans the floors better than anything I’ve seen in years.
Out of the box, unlike many tech devices, the set up is super easy with a well explained and illustrated instructions sheet.
The bot itself is all assembled while its charging and cleaning station is easy to set up with just a container for dirty water to add and one for clean water which you need to fill.
The premium looking station also has containers for normal and heavy-duty cleaning solutions, which are sold separately.
Then it’s a case of downloading the app on your smartphone and connecting the Deebot to your Wi-Fi.
A very polite sounding AI assistant talks you through the setup process.
Then you map your home for the first time. You can also set up ‘no go’ areas, change room names, add more dividers and so on.
Powered by a 100W high-performance fan and 6400 mAh battery, it promises a 140% boost in fine dust removal, 262% boost in hair removal, and a 100% large particles pick-up rate.
A new ‘blast’ features generates 18L/s airflow and 19500 Pa suction power.
Its bagless design, driven by the OmniCyclone Station, delivers powerful suction while emptying. The 1.6L dustbin enables up to 48 days of operation with minimal maintenance.
Via the app, there are a whole range of settings you can change, including how much water you want used in mopping, how quickly you want it to clean, and how much suction power you use. There are even settings for pet options like avoiding scattering the pet food.
We did our first run at night after setting it up and with its own powerful light, it was able to obviously see the dirt and dog hair and eliminate it very well.
The Deebot automatically sees that areas like the kitchen and laundry are dirtier and require more mopping while it can also boost suction in heavy carpet areas.
If you are looking for a fully autonomous cleaning experience, the Yiko agent uses AI to come up with customised cleaning plans after carrying out its own analysis.
Having a scheduled cleaning plan means you can literally set and forget but you still need to ensure that obstacles like electrical cords, or tussles from mats, which can become stuck in the wheels, are put out of the way.
Otherwise, you will end up with a message on your app while you’re out saying the bot is in trouble.
In our first run, only the rubber mat under the dog bowls proved an obstacle with the edge of it being sucked into the wheels.
In the app, you can monitor the cleaning progress of each room, with it now showing when each room started and when it was finished.
In one of our tests, it cleaned most of the house (apart from the boys’ rooms where the doors were shut) in about two hours. Surprisingly, it still had 51 per cent battery as it returned to the station.
The new Ozmo Roller 2.0 equipped with TruEdge 3.0 Extreme Edge Cleaning, ensures great edge‑to‑edge cleaning.
The roller promises 16 times higher mopping pressure (3,800Pa) than traditional systems. Operating at 200rpm, the Deebot scrubs and rinses 200 times per minute.
A newly upgraded high-density-nylon mop roller and heavy-duty cleaning solution significantly boost the robot’s ability to tackle tough floor stains.
Ecovacs says even stubborn, longstanding messes such as overnight coffee or soy sauce stains, can be wiped away in a single pass.
While we’ve only been testing it for a few days after it first went on the shelves this week, the bot has received some glowing reviews with one describing it as putting the very best of what is available in the market into one package.
Karen Powell, regional director ANZ for Ecovacs Robotics said the company had been “consistently pushing the boundaries of intelligent cleaning”.
“Our innovation is deeply rooted in real user needs,’’ she said.
“With our most advanced technologies to date, the Deebot X11 delivers extra in every way, delivering unparalleled cleanliness, convenience and intelligence.
“We continue to redefine what users can expect from a robotic vacuum cleaner.”
Since debuting on the Deebot X8 Pro Omni, Ecovacs says its Ozmo Roller has redefined deep cleaning with nearly 1.5 million units sold.
The cleaning station is equipped with 75°C hot water soak washing to clean the roller.
The system adjusts between the normal and heavy-duty solutions to ensure cleaner floors.
The OmniCyclone Station has 63°C hot air drying. The roller mop rotates continually while precision-focused hot air targets its surface, achieving complete dryness in about two hours.
The Deebot X11 uses artificial intelligence visual interpretation (AIVI) to recognise objects, moving people and pets, to change paths on the go.
For the first time, Yiko has been merged with a deep-thinking LLM (large language model) to better understand and respond to users’ requests.
Ecovacs says it can ‘proactively anticipate users’ cleaning needs by cross-referencing user preferences, user routines, room layouts and object density to devise 360˚ cleaning strategies. ‘The result is truly autonomous cleaning management that thinks ahead.’
In Australia, the Deebot X11 OmniCyclone has a recommended retail price of $2,999.
