Australia Post employee charged after allegedly stealing more than $6k worth of phones

An Australia Post employee has been charged with allegedly stealing more than $6000 worth of phones from his own employer.

An Australia Post employee has been charged with allegedly stealing more than $6,000 worth of mobile phones from a mail consignment in Central West NSW.

The post office employee allegedly placed a consignment from in his delivery van after stealing it from a post office in Parkes on September 17, NSW Police said in a statement.

Australia Post were alerted that one of the mobile phones was allegedly activated, despite it being due for release three days later on September 20.

An investigation was launched and police stopped a vehicle on Edward St in Forbes about 6.40am on Thursday.

A 34-year-old man was arrested and police found and seized one of the mobile phones following a search of the van.

Officers then attended a Federation Blvd home in Forbes where three more mobile phones were seized.

The man was taken to Parkes Police Station where he was charged with steal property as clerk/servant over $5,000 and under $15,000.

The 34-year-old was granted conditional bail and is set to front Parkes Local Court on October 17.

It’s understood the individual was a contractor and is no longer providing services to Australia Post.
