A thick fog has engulfed Brisbane, triggering traffic chaos on the roads and in the skies, with motorists warned of “dangerous conditions”.
Road officials have urged residents to drive with their headlights on and leave extra space behind vehicles amid a thick fog that can clearly be seen from space.
The Bureau of Meteorology issued a weather warning to Queensland residents on Tuesday amid a thick fog that has visibility as low as 100m
“The widespread fog over southeast Queensland is seen clearly from space,” the bureau said.

Bureau meteorologist, Helen Reid said the fog, which is the thickest she had seen “in a while”, is most solid in cities such as Brisbane, Ipswich and the bay area.
“It’s hard for us to tell where exactly the fog is due to high level cloud in north Brisbane,” she said.
“It is thinning downstream but there is still quite a bit out over the bay right into the northeast and the city setting which is still quite solid.”

Ms Reid said the fog was not just impacting Brisbane but the Darling Downs and areas in northern Queensland.
The fog is the result of “just enough moisture in the air” after light showers on Monday and then clear skies in the afternoon that made the atmosphere cool enough to form fog.
The weather has triggered chaos in the sky, with flights incoming into Brisbane diverted to regional airports such as Coolangatta, Mackay and Rockhampton.
As the fog continues throughout the morning, incoming flights are continuing to be diverted, while departing flights are still taking off.
People departing from Brisbane airport and motorists in Brisbane have been warned of minor delays.
