Australians are set to bask in hot and sunny conditions this Christmas, according to the latest Christmas Day forecasts across the capitals.

Millions of Australians are set to bask in hot and sunny conditions this Christmas Day, amid the forecasts for the national holiday being revealed.

Darwin’s maximum temperatures are set to soar to 35C while Hobart’s will only reach 26C, according to the latest models forecast by weather intelligence site AccuWeather.

While weather predictions are “a little fluid” at this stage, meteorologist Rob Sharpe from Sky News Weather says there is still a “pretty decent chance” of hot conditions in parts across the country.

NSW 

In Sydney, the mercury will likely tip to a 27 degree high, and at night dropping down to 21 degrees. Sydneysiders are to expect a very low chance of rain, and some clouds and humidity during Christmas Day.

Christmas week will also see more opportunities to soak up some sun with warmer and drier conditions, Mr Sharpe says.

QLD

Brisbane’s Christmas Day will be very warm with a top of 30 degrees. The city will expect some clouds, and will drop to 22 degrees by the end of the day.

Christmas week will be warmer and drier than usual.

VIC 

Melbourne’s Christmas will be sunny with a high of 26 and a low of 16 at night.

During the week, it is expected to be warmer and drier than average conditions.

ACT 

Canberra is set to have sunshine with a passing shower in the afternoon, and a top of 29 degrees on Christmas Day. The weather will drop to 14 degrees at night.

During the week, warmer conditions are on the cards.

SA

A mostly sunny Christmas Day with a high of 27 degrees for South Australians in Adelaide. At night it will get cooler, dropping to 17 degrees.

Christmas week may see a cold front coming, but the week could end up sitting on average temperatures.

WA 

A partly-sunny Christmas Day, with a warm 24 degrees which will ease to a clear 17 degree night.

But Mr Sharpe says there may also be some wet weather during the week of Christmas.

NT

Darwin is set to scorch with a high of 35 degrees, but will be mostly cloudy through the day. The temperature will drop to 25 degrees at night, and is expected to see a couple of showers and possibly, a thunderstorm.

There is also a possibility of an active monsoon in parts of northern Australia during the week of Christmas, and it may be wetter than usual, according to Mr Sharpe.

TAS

No sun in sight for Hobart so far, with a shower expected on Christmas Day, followed by a mostly cloudy day and some showers in the afternoon. A predicted high of 26 degrees, reaching to a low of 13 degrees.

During the week, it could be “warm or cold” depending on a cold front that may move through the state, Mr Sharpe says.
