This has been a watershed year for Australian female athletes. From the Matildas to our swimmers, they have made their mark at home and abroad. We reveal the top 50 for 2023.

Australia’s women continue to put this country on the map with their masterful performances on the world stage.

And 2023 was no different, with the Matildas putting on a show with a historic semi-final appearance at their home World Cup, our swimmers laying down world record markers ahead of the Paris Olympics, and the cricketers routinely showcasing why they’re the best in the world.

Then there were the efforts of the continually growing NRLW and AFLW competitions, the Diamonds’ Netball World Cup heroics and the eye-catching performances of any number of other Olympic hopefuls.

Whittling this all down to the 50 most impressive female athletes of the year was always going to be a difficult task – let alone nailing down the Top 10, and then outright first on our list.
