“Who the Hell Knows?”: Cody Simpson blasts retirement rumours amid Olympic training frenzy

Singer-turned-swimmer Cody Simpson has responded to swirling retirement rumours, but if fans were hoping for some clarity on the matter, his latest statement is anything but.

Queensland singer-turned-swimmer, Cody Simpson, has taken to social media to respond to swirling retirement rumours.

Addressing recent speculation he might be about to hang up his goggles, Simpson took to Instagram on Wednesday afternoon, but may have left his 5.2 million followers with more questions than answers.

The Gold Coast sensation, currently rigorously training at the Gold Coast Aquatic Centre ahead of the upcoming Olympic Games, posted a candid video with a message that could be taken either as a hint at retirement, that he’s most definitely not ready to quit, or that he himself doesn’t even know.

“The reports on my retirement are greatly exaggerated – who the hell knows?” he stated.

The post follows a flurry of media reports suggesting Simpson was eyeing retirement after the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The rumours gained traction after Simpson, fresh from securing medals at the Australian Short Course Championships, shared a photograph of his medals on Instagram, accompanied by the caption: “My second and last ever Aussie short course champs. It’s been real.”

This ambiguous remark led to speculation that Simpson’s swimming career was nearing its conclusion.

Yet, in a series of Instagram stories following his initial post, he is seen training vigorously, both in the swimming pool and the gym, a clear indication of his current dedication to the sport.

Adding to the intrigue, Simpson shared another thought-provoking message: “Avoid life now = feel it heavier later. Confront it all now = feel lighter later” which fans have interpreted as a reference to the retirement rumours.

Simpson’s quest for Olympic glory has been a long and arduous journey, spanning four years of relentless effort and commitment.

“I’m in the final year of a four-year journey and experiment that’s come so much further than I could have bargained for – so we’re in the final stretch,” he previously told the Courier-Mail.

Despite his current focus on swimming, Simpson has not turned his back on his musical roots, with plans to return to his career in music post-swimming.

In an interview with the Courier-Mail, he expressed his deep-seated love for music, revealing, “I love playing music and that’s what I plan on doing with my life. For a long time.”
