Injury-prone paceman Jhye Richardson suffered his most bizarre blow yet and then made a Lazarus-like return after appearing to injure his shoulder while celebrating a wicket in the Sheffield Shield.

The 28-year-old, who has played three Tests for Australia, removed South Australian pair Conor McInerney and Daniel Drew in consecutive deliveries to be on a hat-trick for Western Australia on day two of the sides’ Shield match at Adelaide Oval.

But things took a turn when he was walked off the ground clinging to his shoulder having hurt himself while celebrating with teammates.

It shaped as a heartbreaking moment for Richardson, who is playing his comeback first-class match after a year out of the format with an array of injuries.

But he returned to bowl nine overs later, striking again to remove Thomas Kelly.

Richardson played the most recent of his Tests in late 2021.

He is also due to be up for grabs at the Indian Premier League mega auction in Saudi Arabia which begins on Sunday night (AEDT).

Speaking earlier this month, Richardson said he did not have a specific target when it came to returning to international cricket.

“It’s not something I can afford to think about too much,” Richardson said.

“If I put too much pressure on myself then it’s not good for anyone.

“The main thing for me is playing these games, performing and getting through.”
