San Jose Sharks goalie Troy Grosenick made history with an amazing NHL debut yesterday, recording 45 saves in a 2-0 win over the Carolina Hurricanes, including 14 in the third period. It was the most saves for a debut shutout in the modern era, breaking a record set way back in 1967.
What made it such a wonderful moment was the reaction of Grosenick’s proud dad, Scott, who made the trip to North Carolina from the family home in Milwaukee to witness the game.
After full-time, Scott Grosenick was so overcome with pride that he was bouncing up and down with his arms in the air - then burst into tears.

“I was just happy for him, knowing the process he’s gone through ever since he was first on the ice,” he told the San Jose Mercury News.
Grosenick, 25, made it to the NHL the hard way, going through the minor leagues after missing out on being drafted. He said having his family there for his debut made it extra special.
“It’s going to be really special to look back on it. Knowing that they were here to experience it, too,” he said.
