Brad Wing NFL: Aussie punter gets some love from Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger

AUSSIE NFL punter Brad Wing has revealed he got the seal of approval for his historic two-point conversion throw from superstar Pittsburgh Steelers teammate Ben Roethlisberger.

Wing became the first Australian to throw for points in the NFL when he hit tight end Matt Spaeth with a throw in the wake of a muffed kick attempt, for which he was the holder.

Roethlisberger, who has been in astonishing form for the Steelers at quarterback, gave the 23-year-old some love in the wake of the throw.

“He did, he gave me a bit of a high five,” Wing told SEN Radio.

“Ben is playing lights out at the moment, probably better than any other quarterback in the NFL at the moment, so for him to come and give me some recognition for a throw for points was pretty good.”

A funny Vine has also been circulating of Roethlisberger going nuts for Wing after the relatively lightweight Aussie got involved in a fracas - a foray that helped earn him the tag of “just about the swaggiest punter who ever lived” from USA Today’s For The Win.

Wing’s throw helped the Steelers beat the Ravens 43-23. He said the special teams guys had a number of contingency plans in the event of muffed plays.

“It worked out pretty good, it was a good feeling once I saw big Space catch it and I realised it was all good,” he said.

“It wasn’t a set play but we do practice the situation that if something goes wrong then we have a couple of options that we go to.”
