The Advertiser Track Down Under to return to SuperDrome in January after successful first event

After the success of its inaugural year, The Advertiser Track Down Under is returning and bringing some big-name international riders to the SuperDrome in January.

The latest addition to the Tour Down Under’s festival of cycling is returning next year with Australia’s Tokyo Olympic-bound track cyclists taking on an international field at the SuperDrome.

The Advertiser Track Down Under - which drew a crowd of 2000 people despite 42C heat on its inaugural night in January - is expected to grow with up to six riders from the WorldTour peloton taking part.

This year’s event included Italian sprinter Elia Viviani and Danish rider Michael Morkov, and was considered a huge success by TDU boss Mike Turtur who ran the night.

“We’ve already had very strong interest from international riders about the night,” Turtur said.

“The big factor about next year is the Tokyo Olympic Games, so not only will we have Australia’s best cyclists on the track, but others from around the world because the countdown to the Games is on.

“Last (January) was a fantastic night of racing, it was well received by the public and I’m confident we will build on that next year.

“It’s an associated event of the Santos Tour Down Under and a really important element in the festival of cycling.”
