After a hard fought opening set which Sinner took 7-5, things took a wild turn during an enthralling second set.

As the on court temperature ramped up, Draper began to struggle and on several occasions was seen throwing up behind the baseline.

Things then went next level when one of the points of the tournament unfolded, which you can watch in the video player above.

After Draper delivered a stunning crosscourt volley, Sinner chased it down and hit his shot across court with the Brit then chipping the ball down the line towards the baseline.

Sinner somehow scurried back and got to it and hit it high into the sky as he tumbled backwards into the cladding.

Draper thundered an overhead slam but the world number one had returned to his feet and was waiting as he unleashed a hellacious forehand winner past his opponent in outrageous scenes.

But as those in attendance applauded what had just unfolded, concern set in for Sinner’s camp as he was left clutching his left wrist.

When both men returned to the chairs at the end of the game, both were seen to by the doctor with Sinner getting his wrist worked on while Draper was given tablets for his stomach issues.

Tennis writer Ricky Dimon wrote on X: “OH MY GOD.”

Journalist Gaspar Ribeiro Lanca wrote: “Crazy last five minutes at the US Open. Perhaps the weirdest sequence of events we’ve witnessed inside a tennis court in a long time.”

Jose Morgado added: “What the hell is happening?”

Despite Sinner requiring heavy attention to his wrist, the Italian superstar bounced back and claimed the second set in a tie-break.

With Draper struggling, Sinner put the foot down and raced away as he claimed the third set 6-2 to advance into his first ever US Open final.

He will now await the winner of the second semi-final which will see an all-American battle unfold.

12th seeded Taylor Fritz will take on 20th seeded Frances Tiafoe with the contest set to get underway from around 9am (AEST).
