Nick Kyrgios and Costeen Hatzi's growing fame and fortune

Nick Kyrgios and Costeen Hatzi are Australian tennis’ glamour couple. See how the tennis star has built his estimated $25 million wealth and influencer Hatzi’s has grown her fortune.

The empires behind Nick Kyrgios and Costeen Hatzi

Nick Kyrgios and Costeen Hatzi are, without doubt, Australian tennis’ glamour couple. The bad boy of tennis and the Sydney-born “digital creator” and influencer have been together since 2021 and, in the years since, the couple have travelled the world together with Hatzi a constant presence courtside.

The Canberra-born player spent the past few weeks at Wimbledon, commentating for the BBC and ESPN. True to form, he made headlines – for his unusual choice of dress, including hoodies and puffer jackets at the Old England Club.

He also made news this month when the man who stole his Tesla at gunpoint, sparking a police pursuit, was sentenced to four-and-a-half years’ jail in the ACT Supreme Court.

But away from the spotlight, the controversial player’s lengthy absence from the court due to a horrific run with injuries has given the couple more time to focus on their off-court lives and business interests.

Here we take a look at just how the tennis star has built his estimated $25 million wealth and why Hatzi’s growing online popularity is resulting in a major financial windfall for the influencer.

ON COURT EARNINGS

Kyrgios has won 11 ATP tournaments – including singles and doubles titles – so far, which has earned him more than $18.5 million in prize money, including a pretty handy $1.5 million for making the Wimbledon final in 2022 where he went down to Novak Djokovic in four sets. His on-court earnings have largely disappeared over the past 18 months due to Kyrgios’ ongoing injury issues, but he hasn’t thrown in the racquet for good just yet.

ENDORSEMENTS

The younger generation love Nick so it’s not surprising the 29-year-old has made millions in endorsement deals. Over the years he’s joined forces with high-end brands such as Nike, Beats, Yonnex, PlayStation, Kia and Mexican food giant Old El Paso. Last month, he announced a collaboration with Joe & the Juice, a global chain of juice bars, which resulted in The Big Smash, a bright pink protein shake.

CONTROVERSIES

But Kyrgios’ bad-boy image has also cost him some big money endorsements. In 2014, he was named a brand ambassador by Bonds, but got off on the wrong foot during an interview to promote the iconic Aussie label when he said that he didn’t wear underwear under his tennis shorts.

“I actually don’t wear underwear on the court. I wear Nike Skins underneath my shorts,” he told Sunrise’s Samantha Armytage and David Koch during an interview slated to discuss his new deal with the brand. They promptly ended their partnership with him in 2015.

In more controversy for the star, Kyrgios’ association with Malaysia Airlines ended in 2016 after just one year following being suspended and fined for allegedly tanking in the Shanghai Rolex Masters.

INVESTMENTS

Kyrgios is a savvy business operator who clearly has naturally good instincts. He’s a founder and investor in sports media company AthletesVoice, an online platform for sports stars to speak directly to their fans.

In 2022, he joined four-time grand slam champion Naomi Osaka and Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl star Patrick Mahomes in investing in pickleball club Miami PC, who now compete in the Major Pickleball League in the US. And in 2023, a “thrilled” Kyrgios turned his love of basketball into an investment by joining the ownership group of NBL team the South East Melbourne Phoenix.

Last year, he also backed the probiotic sugar-free soft drink, Alive, which is sold nationally. Earlier this year, he appeared on an episode of Gordon Ramsay’s Food Stars alongside Ramsay and Janine Allis to see which team could market his soft drink the best.

MEDIA CAREER

Kyrgios is a natural media performer so it is not surprising that he’s using his considerable talents to rake in a bit of cash behind the microphone.

His popular video podcast series Good Trouble with Nick Kyrgios kicked off earlier this year where Kyrgios has interviewed stars like Gordon Ramsay, Djokovic, Mike Tyson and Osaka.

Kyrgios has also co-hosted the No Boundaries podcast with fellow Australian tennis players Alexander Babanine and James Frawley.

Late last year, he did a very Nick thing by announcing he was joining the adult content site OnlyFans to “create, produce, direct and own content”, adding that he’s been “speaking to my fans directly for years” and knows what they’ll want to see on his channel.

He’s also dipped his toe further into tennis commentary. At the Australian Open this year, Kyrgios won over fans when he took on commentating duties for US sports network ESPN. Not surprisingly, Kyrgios was not shy in offering up his very honest opinion on the matches, which were called “refreshing”, while he also charmed US viewers by having an actual sense of humour. At Wimbledon, Kyrgios earned rave reviews in the booth for both the BBC and ESPN. Still, it wouldn’t be Nick without a bit of controversy – and his dress attire aside – it kicked off when he slammed BBC colleague Andrew Castle over his “disrespectful” commentating of the Alexander Zverev and Taylor Fritz match.

Kyrgios’ main base remains Canberra where he was born and grew up. In 2022, he was said to have quietly secured a $1.6 million two-storey townhouse in the Sydney suburb of Kensington in order to spend more time with Hatzi, who is from the Harbour City. He also reportedly has a home in The Bahamas.

CAR COLLECTION

Kyrgios loves his cars and his impressive collection includes a selection of luxury Mercedes Benz, BMWs, Range Rovers and Teslas (including the green one stolen at gunpoint).

INFLUENCER

Hatzi, who has close to 180,000 Instagram followers, labels herself as a “digital creator”.

She founded Style Studio Designer Dress Hire, a Sydney-based business that hires out a range of designer dresses to customers. The 24-year-old also has her own business, Casa Amor Interiors, which deals in minimalist home decor, and she’s a brand ambassador for self-tanning company, Bondi Sands.

But it’s her growing reputation as an influencer that could rake in even more money. Hatzi has done Instagram paid partnerships with high-end brands such as YSL and Chanel, and her client list is growing.

CHARITIES

But it’s not all about the bucks for Nick. The tennis champ also has a big heart and has often put his money where his mouth is. He founded the NK Foundation in 2017, which gives underprivileged kids the chance to follow their sporting dreams.

After Australia was hit by catastrophic bushfires in 2020, Kyrgios started Aces for Bushfire Relief where, just prior to the Australian Open that year, he held an exhibition tournament which donated the proceeds to those who were hardest hit by the fires. He also pledged a further $200 for every ace he hit during the summer. Other tennis players also joined in supporting the cause, which raised over $5 million.
