Women’s T20 World Cup: Ellyse Perry insists scratchy Aussies will be ‘humming’ when it counts

Their recent form hasn’t been up to their usual high standards but Ellyse Perry says Australia will polish their performances and ensure they live up to their favourites tag at the World Cup.

Ellyse Perry says winning is a habit and backed Australia to be “humming” when they host the Twenty20 World Cup later this month.

Australia suffered a rare loss against England on Saturday but returned to winning ways against India in game three of the women’s international tri-series on Sunday.

The teams will play each other again in Melbourne this weekend before Australia opens the World Cup against India on February 21.

Superstar allrounder Perry said they’d use the remaining games to polish their performances and ensure they live up to their favourites tag at the World Cup.

“These games are two-fold, certainly winning is a habit and you want to get in it and stay in it but I also think just trying to iron out things,” Perry said.

“(Against England) we had some good stuff in the field and we had some rusty stuff and (against India) was a lot more polished performance.

“I’m really excited about the next couple of games because when you come together initially there is always a bit of a teething period.

“This is the perfect opportunity to work on things, you don’t want to peak too early either.

“It’s great to have this series and to that point I’m really confident we’ll be going well and humming (at the World Cup).”

Meg Lanning missed the match against India due to a back complaint but Perry said they had the depth to cover their skipper.

“We bat pretty deep. We’ve got a lot of depth and anyone on their day is capable of winning us the game,” Perry said.

“Meg has a sore back. It’s something she’s managed the last couple of years so in the context of the series it was precautionary she sat out, she’ll be fine.”
