Premiership winning Bronco Ali Brigginshaw to captain QLD Maroons side
The Queensland Maroons have announced a new captain for their 2019 Women’s State of Origin clash, with premiership hero Ali Brigginshaw given the ultimate honour.

Premiership winning halfback Ali Brigginshaw will lead the Maroons side in this year’s Women’s State of Origin clash.
Queensland coach Jason Hetherington announced the new captaincy role earlier tonight as the women entered their first day of camp on the Gold Coast.
Brigginshaw was a pivotal role during the Broncos NRLW win during the inaugural women’s competition last year.

The 29-year-old has represented Queensland for the past three years, captained the Jillaroos and was woman-of-the-match during the 2017 Women’s Rugby League World Cup Final.
She said she drew inspiration from Queensland legend Karyn Murphy.
“I was emotional when told the news,” Brigginshaw said.
“I was surprised, but it’s something I have always dreamt of doing.
“I played next to Karyn Murphy; I was her halves partner with her for many Origins where she was captain and I always thought I would like to lead like Karyn Murphy, to lead my state the way Karyn Murphy did.
“She has so much pride and passion for Queensland and she showed that.”
Hetherington said he had faith in Brigginshaw’s ability to lead the team next Friday night.

“Through her experience during the NRLW last season with the Brisbane Broncos, here she helped guide the side to a premiership, Ali has matured as a leader,” Hetherington said.
“Ali also had the honour of captaining Australia against New Zealand and was an inspiration.”
