Hannah Green continues rise through the ranks after securing her second LPGA Tour win

Hannah Green will surge into the world top 20 after producing an ice-cool finish under pressure to secure her second LPGA Tour title of the year.

Hannah Green will gatecrash golf’s world top 20 for the first time after a rousing comeback to win the Portland Classic with her final putt.

Australia’s hottest golfer, male or female, displayed wonderful poise to hole three clutch putts over the final four holes to catch faltering American teen Yealimi Noh.

Green had walked onto the 15th tee three shots behind but two nerveless birdies and a pure par save from nearly three metres on the final green grabbed her second trophy of the year.

Green’s world ranking sat at No.114 in June before her upset win at the Women’s PGA Championship.

She will now make another leap from No.26, thanks to her superb 64-63 start in Portland and her final round composure for a 67, which made up for a third-round lull (73).

As at the PGA, she had to ice a pressure putt on the last to win at 21-under-par and avoid a play-off.

“This kind of reminded me (of the PGA) with holing a similar-length putt,” Green, 22, said.

“I can definitely say having that experience at the PGA helped me, especially the last five holes, grinding it out and making sure I stayed patient.”

Green relished finding a little patch of Australia in Portland, where she was a regular at the Proud Mary cafe, a fresh, healthy hub run by Aussies.

“I really enjoy Portland, it’s a city that resembles Perth where I live and I just found Proud Mary really close to home which is why I went there five or six times,” Green said.

Green is on her way home to Perth, part of a calculated plan to refresh after a run of tournaments. The Portland Classic trophy is massive and Green was being practical, not boastful, when wondering where it was going to fit at home.

“The PGA Championship (trophy) just last week arrived back in Perth, so that was really nice,” she said. “This (Portland Classic) one is huge.

“I’m going to have to maybe dedicate a room to some trophies instead of just the hallway.”
