IN-FORM trainer Liam Birchley has been left stunned by a snub from the Victoria Racing Club ahead of Missy Longstocking's tilt on the famous Melbourne Cup carnival next week.

Birchley had intended to give Missy Longstocking a look at the Flemington straight this morning before she runs in the Coolmore Stud Stakes and possibly Patinack Farm Classic a week later.

But track officials put the stop sign up, telling him the course proper was only for Flemington-trained horses and internationals.

“Not interstaters apparently,” said Birchley who has his runners stabled at Caulfield.

“I'm paid up for the Patinack, which costs $800, which you would think allows you to have a gallop at the joint.

“His exact words were 'no mate, it's for Flemington trained horses only, so best of luck.

“Everyone else down there has been so good to deal with, that helpful, that professional, I couldn't believe I came across it.”

Birchley spoke to Flemington trainer John Sadler, who spoke to another official, who “knocked it on the head as well.”

“I had to find a mate to work with (yesterday) instead,” Birchley said. “Caulfield do whatever you ask for.

“It's the hallowed turf apparently. It's disappointing but that's the way it is.”
