AFTER a brief hiatus, the Kelso Wood-Chris Munce partnership is a formidable one once again in Brisbane racing.

The pair combined for Listed wins with Someday and Into The Red at Doomben yesterday, which finished off a stakes treble for Munce, who had earlier won on Divine City.

"It's amazing what happens when you get on fast horses," Munce said.

For Wood's part, he admitted to having endured "a lean trot" by his standards and he was happy to be back in the feature winning list.

Wood was a key figure in propelling Munce to a record century of winners in 2011-12, but the relationship cooled during the winter carnival when Munce was replaced on a number of top stable runners.

"I had to bash him up a few times to get him right," Wood joked.

"In all seriousness though, it's bloody good to see him get three winners."

Wood said he felt vindicated with Into The Red's Gold Edition Plate win after questioning his decision to take him to Sydney in September.

"I gave myself a bit of a bashing over that," he said. "I'm my harshest critic. I thought he was worthy of taking down there but he drew bad each time.

"So we went down there and got beat when we could have stayed here and been winning races.

"But what he's showing now justifies me taking him down there.

"He's a very serious horse and I have a lot of time for him."

One of the horses Munce was dumped off during the carnival was Someday, but he laughed off any suggestion yesterday's win was made more satisfying because of that.

"That's racing. It's happened before and it will happen again," Munce said.

"It's just nice to win on him because he's been to Sydney and now come back here and won a nice race."

Wood said Someday would run next in the Bernborough Handicap at Toowoomba on December 31.

Into The Red will now follow the path of former stablemate Sizzling, who won the Gold Edition last year.

Wood is hoping for better luck this time around, with Sizzling running second in both the Vo Rogue Plate and Magic Millions Guineas, the latter where the barrier most certainly cost him victory.

While Into The Red claimed the honours yesterday, there was merit in the efforts of several runners behind him, most notably Gundy Spirit who came off an Ipswich maiden win to flash home from last to grab third.

Trainer Tony Gollan said he had tossed up whether to give him a "kill" in an easier race, but now he had run so well here, would press on along the MM path into the Vo Rogue Plate.
