Sky Racing and Brisbane Racing Club’s turf expert Nathan Exelby runs his eye over Saturday’s QTIS Jewel meeting at Gold Coast.

Track: Soft 5. Rail: True

BEST BETS

Euro Belle, R1 No.1 – $11

She’s trimmed up a bit from a ridiculous opening quote. Concede Rich Lister hard to beat, but think this is a much easier assignment for Euro Belle on her home track after having little luck this time in.

Irukandji, R3 No.6 – $5

Sensationally backed last time and ran really well. Fitter again here and hoping Jaden Lloyd lets him slide forward into a prominent spot not far from the speed.

Prince Of Boom, R8 No.2 – $2.80

Showed the throat operation had been a success with the big win at Toowoomba under 59kg. Now gets in at set weights and draws easily best of the main chances.

Race 6: She’sgottheboom $1.95-$1.85

Race 7: Kisukano $5.50-$4.60, Boomtown Lass $10-$9

THE QUADDIE

R6: QTIS JEWEL 2YO (1200m)

She’sgottheboom ($1.85) is entitled to be favourite after two easy wins. Liked the way she came away when challenged at Toowoomba and strong enough at the end to suggest 1200m will be no issue. I am taken by the price of Refuel ($23/$4.80) though. He wasn’t far off Capital Tower in the boys division on the same day, where times were almost comparable to She’sgottheboom. He was only first up there behind a Brisbane carnival aspirant, with a big gap to third. Don’t see why he doesn’t race well again. The first starters Toe The Line ($11) and Lady Falvelon ($19) have both trialled very well, but it’s an ask on debut. Glamborgini ($10) can run a race up front.

Selections: 1 Refuel, 5 She’sgottheboom, 10 Glamborgini, 13 Lady Falvelon

R7: TAB MILITARY ROSE PLATE (1100m)

Speed through roughies I’m A Foxygirl and Hedonie and then wider out via She Can Sing, Nicci Trix and Winside. Think it sets up nicely for Boomtown Lass ($9), who will enjoy a lovely trail behind that genuine pace. She was really strong through the line at Caloundra running down Je Suis Belle over 1000m and 1100m will be no problem. Kisukano ($4.60) is the best horse here resuming after a solid summer. She will likely have to get back from this gate, but can work home strongly. Say Haya ($15) is the one I’m giving a knockout hope to. She will appreciate the tempo. Thinking it’s a tough ask for She Can Sing ($5) off the wide draw.

Selections: 5 Boomtown Lass, 2 Kisukano, 6 Say Haya

R8: TAB QTIS JEWEL 3YO (1200m)

Prince Of Boom ($2.80) had to carry the big weight at Toowoomba but did it easily after jumping cleanly from a wide gate and he put them to the sword. Tougher rivals this time but he’s well suited by the set weights and based on what we saw there, he can go on with it now. Tiger Legend ($4.80) needs a slice of luck from the draw, but his Vo Rogue win was excellent and he can finish off strongly. The O’Dea-Hoysted pair of Birriecart ($5.50) and Enterprise Pomme ($7) are talents, but need to offset the draws. Birriecart showed nice improvement in his latest trial, while Enterprise Pomme was good beating older horses in a trial on Tuesday.

Selections: 2 Prince Of Boom, 11 Enterprise Pomme, 1 Tiger Legend, 7 Birriecart

R9: GOLD JEWEL (1400m)

Think Safework ($7.50) can make it three on end here. He’s come through a couple of easier races, which he’s won impressively and is starting to live up to the potential he showed early. He was stiff not to go close in the $1m QTIS race here in January and this race is no harder than that one. Gets the sweetest of runs and should get his chance. Cracker Essgee ($6) did a huge job to win last time after doing a bit of work in the run and he draws kindly here. Last Chance ($5.50) backs up from a solid effort last week and has a hope, as does Tumbler Ridge ($4.40), but he has to concede a bit of weight to these others.

Selections: 11 Safework, 10 Cracker Essgee

AWAY FROM HOME

Paulele (Rosehill, Race 9, $11) looks superbly placed in The Galaxy with 53kg. Not far short of the best sprinting three-year-olds and he resumed a winner in good style. Hoping the state of the track offsets the wide draw. Expecting him to finish strongly on the soft ground. Can back both he and save on Isotope ($4) at the odds. In the Golden Slipper, happy to box up Russian Conquest ($16), Coolangatta ($4.40), She’s Extreme ($8.50) and Sebonack ($21) in the quinella and include Fireburn ($10) in the First 4.
