Star signs at Gold Coast yearling sale as Magic Millions launches its catalogue

THE search for the next Zoustar or Boban starts on Thursday with the Magic Millions 2014 catalogue launch.

THE countdown in the search for the next Atlantic Jewel, Zoustar or Boban starts from today, with Magic Millions launching its catalogue for the 2014 Gold Coast Yearling Sale.

The catalogue has gone live this morning, with 926 horses in sessions 1-5, including 663 in book 1 (sessions 1-5). The sale will run from January 8-12 next year.

With Pierro the flagbearer for the sales company last season, Zoustar and Boban stepped into the vacancy to fly the Magic Millions flag during the spring carnival.

That was in addition to Atlantic Jewel, who remains the highest rated runner in Australia this season.

Although not a January graduate, Buffering was another Magic Millions product to conquer the best races over the carnival.

Magic Millions managing director Vin Cox said the performance of MM graduates in the past two seasons had been "quite outstanding" and remains the standard bearer for all other Australasian sales.

"It just astounds me that some people want to wait for other sales," Cox said.

"You can go back to Pierro, a horse with incredible racetrack success that was then syndicated for the best part of $40 million, then through the likes of Dear Demi and Nechita to the horses we saw over the spring carnival.

"Zoustar and Boban are two of the most exciting horses in the country and Atlantic Jewel was just a freakish talent.

"On top of that, up until last Saturday, we had won every two-year-old race in the country (apart from the MV race restricted to Inglis only graduates)."

Sebring, another MM graduate to bring millions of dollars when sold for stud duties, is the most represented sire in the catalogue with 40 entries.

Fastnet Rock has 37 and Cox Plate sire Snitzel 38.

First season stallion Rothesay is the most represented Queensland sire, with 24 entries in books 1 and 2.
