Red Tracer won a special place in jockey Nash Rawiller's heart

VIDEO: RED Tracer earned herself a special place in the heart of jockey Nash Rawiller after she dominated the Group 2 Tristarc Stakes on Saturday.

TATTS TIARA winner Red Tracer earned herself a special place in the heart of jockey Nash Rawiller after she dominated the Group 2 Tristarc Stakes on Saturday.

Rawiller had won the race previously on the champion More Joyous and prolific Group 1 performer Our Eygptain Raine and he said it great satisfaction to win the event for a third time on a mare he holds in similar esteem.

“I’ve been lucky enough to ride some great mares in my time in racing. More Joyous was one of them, Our Egyptian Raine and this one here today,” Rawiller said.

“She’s not as good as Our Egyptain Raine or More Joyous but she has a heart as big as herself.

“She’s been very well taken care of during her whole career and they’re reaping the rewards for that now.”

Rawiller also heaped praise on owners Geoff and Mary Grimish, who are regarded as two of the most generous people in racing.

“They do a lot of work behind the scenes with a lot of charities and it’s just an honour to ride for them,” he said.

The win completed a training double for Chris Waller, who is now looking forward to the Myer Stakes, in which he hopes Red Tracer can notch a second Group 1 win.

“She fights like a tiger and she’s probably the smallest horse in the race and carries big weights against good horses and at all sorts of tracks,” Waller said.

“We have to have a go at (the Myer) and it was always only going to be the three runs in the spring but she deserves to be running in that.

“To win that Group 1 up there (in Queensland) was great and come and do what she did to a tidy field today was awesome.”

Last start Group 2 winner Fire Up Fifi was never a winning hope but hit the line hard in the final stages to finish fifth.

Trainer Rob Heathcote and jockey Damian Browne said she’s now looking for 1600m.

“I was hoping to get a cart into the race by Bennetta, but they just took me nowhere and she had to do it all herself,” Browne said.

“She has run home super and nothing finished the race off better than her, so I’m looking forward to the mile (Myer) in two weeks.”

Caitlin Lavin was satisfied with the run of Pickabee, who raced in a forward position before weakening in the straight.

“Glen (Boss) said she could have finished about four lengths from Red Tracer had he not eased her down and he thinks she can win a race down here, so it will be good to go to a race where those top ones aren’t there,” she said.
