KELLY Schweida, Bruce Brown and Bruce Hill are confident Queensland-trained gallopers can land an interstate double at Rosehill today.
Brown's Black Magic takes on Schweida's Cape Kidnappers in Race 5, with the pair trying to upset the juggernaut of Chris Waller, who has the favourite Heart Testa.
Brown quipped this week he couldn't believe he travelled all the way to Sydney to find the perfect race only to bump into perhaps the most promising horse in Queensland.
For his part, Schweida's biggest concern is how Cape Kidnappers handles his first road trip.
"I think if the same field was here at Eagle Farm then he would be hard to beat," he said.
"He is a good horse, but they have the drop on him in their backyard."
Having watched Elmantosh (Race 7) come from last to win at Doomben last start, Hill is now adamant riding the four-year-old cold is best and will instruct jockey Peter Robl to do just that today.
Again, Waller looks the major stumbling block with favourite Specific Choice, but Hill feels Elmantosh is well placed at the weights.
"When he gets up closer he tends to go a bit hard and he doesn't finish the race off as well," Hill said.
"So we will just ride him cold and get him to settle and hopefully he can finish off like he did the other day."
"It's a tougher race than last start but normally in a benchmark 80 with his Queensland rating he would get 60kg and down here he gets in with 58kg.
"He has had a go in open company in Brisbane already and acquitted himself well and the trip away will do him good.
"Nothing beats travelling and it settles them down and teaches them to relax."
