GREEN Moon should make a complete recovery from a leg injury sustained in Tuesday's Melbourne Cup, according to owner Lloyd Williams.
The 2012 Melbourne Cup hero finished a well-beaten 21st behind Fiorente and was subsequently found to be lame in the near foreleg.
Williams confirmed Green Moon will be spelled and won't race again this spring.
It is extraordinary what a difference 12 months makes as Green Moon defeated Fiorente by a length in the Melbourne Cup last year.
But at Flemington on Tuesday, Green Moon was eased down when he dropped out of contention and finished 44 lengths behind Fiorente.
Williams's six Cup runners, his only top 10 finisher was Fawkner who ran sixth but the owner was delighted that Gai Waterhouse finally secured her first Melbourne Cup.
"I reckon TJ is looking down on Gai and he would be very proud. He was a very close friend of mine and I know he would be delighted,'' Williams told Racing Network.
"I was thrilled Gai won the race, I couldn't be happier. It is just great for her."
