Les Ross confident with quartet, without putting any of his Doomben runners on a pedestal

LES Ross expects all four of his runners to finish “in the money” at Doomben today but isn’t bullish enough to declare any of them.

LES Ross expects all four of his runners to finish “in the money” at Doomben today but isn’t bullish enough to declare any of them.

At a pinch he rates Trilione (Race 5) the best but concedes she needs a touch of luck off the bad draw.

“Barring bad luck she will be in the first three, but she won’t want to be stopping because the other fellow (Shazzle Pazzle) will be coming pretty quick,” he said.

“It would be lovely to think they could cross the line together.

“Trilione is the best performed of the pair. I’m just getting to know her and she’s really starting to relax in the stable now. I’m pretty confident I’ve got her spot on.

“Shazzle probably should have won the other day, but to be fair it was only a Class 3.

“I’ve only had him for the three runs, but on a dry track with the speed on, he’s going to finish off hard.”

Cuddlesome (Race 4) is the most fancied of the Ross runners today, but the trainer has warned punters about the short price.

“I don’t like the $2 at all,” he said. “She had 10 days in the paddock after her last run so she’s effectively going 1350m first up.

“The last 50m will be a worry. I just hope I have her fit enough.”

Likewise, Mishani Warrior (Race 6) also went to the paddock at owner Mike Crooks’ property at Beaudesert.

“He and Cuddlesome are both good horses but you just worry about race fitness,” Ross said.

“It’s not many times you go to the races with four horses and expect all of them to be in the money, but that’s what I think they’re capable of.

“We just need a shade of luck.”
