OUR experts search long and hard for that elusive decent-priced winner at the major metropolitan meetings this weekend.

RANDWICK

Shayne O’Cass

Race 6, No. 7

HANA’S GOAL

TAB fixed odds: $11

This Japanese mare has been unlucky in her two starts in Australia. She was a $9 chance in the Coolmore but lost any chance of winning when she blew the start but made up plenty of ground to be beaten 5.3 lengths. Overlook her next run in the Doncaster as the track was far too wet for her when beaten 6.9 lengths, coming from last of 20 at the top of the straight after another slow start. The drying Randwick track is a big plus and the drop in distance will not be an issue.

John Davis

Race 7, No. 7

MINIATURE

TAB fixed odds: $4.60

Could not have missed her effort on a bottomless track behind Politeness and Cosmic Endeavour in the P J Bell. The form has been franked with Cosmic Endeavour being a runaway winner at headquarters last Saturday. Proven second-up and is up to a winnable distance range.

John Sibbald

Race 6, No. 4

WEARY

TAB fixed odds: $6

Suffered lacerations but still managed to finish off strongly as favourite in the Doncaster Mile. Dropping back in distance but unlikely to get as far back over this trip and can finish over the top of them.

Stephen Zammit

Race 7, No. 1

HERA

TAB fixed odds: $9.50

This filly showed her class with a game neck win over 2000m in New Zealand in early February. Now with Kris Lees, she ran second to Charzed over 1100m in a Newcastle barrier trial on April 14. She has won twice at Group II level and is unbeaten at 1400m.

Ray Hickson

Race 5, No. 3

BACHMAN

TAB fixed odds: $4.60

Easily accounted for Veuvelicious when they last met and is somehow third pick in the betting behind her and stablemate Peggy Jean, who struggled to beat Scratch Me Lucky (which Bachman also easily beat) in the Sires. He looks a miler if you’ve ever seen one and at $4.60 is a very nice price considering his credentials.

EAGLE FARM

Brad Davidson

Race 3, No.4

DEUCED

TAB fixed odds: $8.50

Backed up his debut win at the Gold Coast with a strong second to Shinji last time out. That horse has won again since and the $8.50 looks good each-way value in this.

Nathan Exelby

Race 7, No. 4

RIVER LAD

TAB fixed odds: $11

He takes on the big guns in the Group 2 weight-for-age event, but he showed with his most recent appearance, when second to Appearance in Sydney, that he’s well up to a race like this. He flies fresh and with a few queries on those above him in the market, he’s sure to firm up as we get closer to the race.

News_Rich_Media: South Australian jockey Libby Hopwood produced a remarkable piece of horsemanship at the Oakbank race meeting on Saturday, helping fellow hoop Holly McKechnie back on to her mount just as it appeared she was destined to fall shortly after the jump.

MORPHETTVILLE

Lincoln Moore

Race 5, No. 2

KAZANLUK

TAB fixed odds: $11

Quality mare second-up here and her form last time in work was first class. She was close-up at Group 2 level last spring before tackling the Sandown Classic. She’s drawn the perfect gate, has been here before and has the services of Dwayne Dunn. Looks great value in a very open race.
