CARNIVAL Capers returns, with Ben Dorries and Nathan Exelby discussing who they rate for the Winter Carnival:

NE: Well, the ego has landed again. No, not your sparring partner Kevin Pietersen, but you, Ben Dorries. Unfortunately, you managed to fluke a few winners during my February holiday and the world hasn’t stopped hearing about it since.

BD: Please mate, you have allegedly been back at work for two months and haven’t tipped a winner. The good news is punters will have plenty of money to play with during the Winter Carnival after filling up on my juicy $15 winners.

NE: No doubt you are looking forward to the carnival. Any chance of you actually doing some work this year, or will I have to fish you out of the Committee Room at stumps each Saturday night again? I see you had a pipe-opening junket on the final day of The Championships …

BD: Again, your sources have let you down Nathan. I was in Sydney sniffing out some potential Winter Carnival raiders. Reckon I spotted a few too, amongst the many glasses of Moet and lashings of lobster. In the fair dinkum department, it was a feelgood start to the Carnival last Saturday with Tony Gollan’s Boom brothers running the quinella. Will the locals continue their momentum on the Gold Coast this weekend?

NE: Numbers are on our side, but the sprinkling of visitors will make their presence felt. WA’s Platinum Rocker is a good addition to the Silk Stocking, the Kiwi Rollout The Carpet has Group 1 form at home, the Hollindale looks likely to go to NSW and the Cockroaches also have a strong hand in the Guineas.

BD: Enough gibbering. Any danger of a tip?

NE: Streama has the proven weight-for-age form, so I’ll make her the pick in the Hollindale The bigger question is, can you live up to your February tipping heroics, or was it just a fluke like most of us suspect?

BD: No fluke Nathan. My vast legion of followers should have something on Voodoo Blue Magic at about $17 in race two tomorrow. And something on Victorian filly Srikandi at $6.50 in the Silk Stocking. Glen Boss hasn’t lobbed on the Coast for the theme parks and nightclubs. When those two tips lob, I’ll be signing autographs outside the Casino in the Queen St Mall. Only $5 per signature. Any long-range Winter Carnival predictions from you, given you were tipping long-priced BTC Cup winner Your Song at this stage last year?

NE: He’s possibly the last winner I tipped! TattsBet released its Stradbroke market yesterday and I think there’s early value with Hucklebuck ($21) and Enquare ($51).
