TRAINER John O’Sing fears city life isn’t the right fit for speed machine Our Boy Malachi and he will take him back home to Rockhampton before plotting his next Brisbane raid.

Our Boy Malachi built on his remarkable Central Queensland record at Eagle Farm yesterday, notching his 11th straight win with a dominant display from the front.

Jubilant senior part-owner Col Donovan greeted winning jockey Adrian Coome at his return to scale with a chorus of “we’re the boys from the bush and we’re back in town” as the Our Boy Malachi fairytale continued.

Punters rallied late for the winner, who started a clear $3 favourite in clocking a slick 56.61sec for the 1000m.

“I was surprised he led them so easily,” O’Sing said.

“We had some troubles with him over the summer, but judging by that, he’s well and truly over them.”

O’Sing is staying with trainer Brian Wakefield, but believes the wider spaces available to Our Boy Malachi back home in Rockhampton will be a better fit for the horse before he returns to Brisbane for a likely black type debut in the Bribie Handicap at Doomben in a fortnight.

But Our Boy Malachi may have to get accustomed to city life soon after, as the owners are weighing up an option to send him to the stables of John, Wayne and Michael Hawkes in Sydney.

“His next run will probably tell us whether he’s worth taking to Sydney or not,” O’Sing said.

“We are hoping he can measure up to that and it’s exciting to have come to Brisbane and prove himself here.

“That’s only my second ever city runner and it’s great.”

Coome has ridden Our Boy Malachi in his past 10 wins and is bullish about him measuring up to stronger races.

“We will have to wait and see. I believe he’s up to them,” Coome said.

“It’s great to be back (in the city), especially for a good horse like him.

“He just travels where he wants to be. He can lead, come from behind and adapt to pretty much anything.”

The Storeman was well-tried to beat the favourite but he hoisted the white flag early in the straight and it was left to his stablemate Pure Purrfection to fill the minor placing.
