Apprentice jockey Travis Wolfgram continues hot form with Doomben success on Emerald Duke

GUN Gold Coast apprentice Travis Wolfgram is in no hurry to make his way to town, despite notching his third city winner at Doomben.

GUN Gold Coast apprentice Travis Wolfgram is in no hurry to make his way to town, despite notching his third city winner at Doomben yesterday.

Wolfgram gave Emerald Duke ($3.70) a charmed run in front and never looked in any danger in the Class 3 (1350m).

The junior jockey is sure to come under notice of more city trainers as the winners roll in, but he's keen to outride his provincial claim before considering any move.

"I'm riding in the city on Wednesdays but I'm happy being at the Gold Coast on a Saturday," he said.

"I still have my 3kg claim down there and I'm leading the premiership at the moment.

"I will consider coming to town if I'm offered a nice ride on a Saturday, but I just want to concentrate on learning my trade and I'm lucky enough to have some really good support at the Coast."

Wolfgram, 18, has only been riding 12 months, but this was his 67th winner.

His dad Phillip was a leading jockey in Toowoomba for many years until injury forced his recent premature retirement.

Wolfgram senior is best known for riding General Nediym to his first two starts in a race.

Wolfgram junior is apprenticed to his mum Tracey, who relocated from Toowoomba to the Gold Coast last season.

"Dad still rides a few but he's in a lot of pain, so I have to work a bit harder," the apprentice said.

"Dad's always offering me plenty of advice though!"

Wolfgram said he was lucky to have the support of so many Gold Coast trainers, including Emerald Duke's trainer John Morrissey.

Scott Morrissey, deputising for his father, said Emerald Duke had the makings of a good miler.
