There were multiple try heroes, hot boots, bone-crunching hits and a sensational comeback. Standouts, players of the week and round two result wrap for the Super Rugby U16 and U19 series.

They were the pre-season favourites and both the NSW Waratahs and Queensland Reds recorded double victories in round two of the Super Rugby U16 and U19 series – but it wasn’t as easy for some as others.

The round produced the biggest scoreline of the season, some of the best kicking, multiple try scorers, big hits, a fantastic comeback and some entertaining passages of play from the rising stars of Australian rugby.

The results have also set the scene for a sensational third round of the rugby competition between Australia’s top academies with the leading two clubs clashing for the first time on Sunday.

In a much-anticipate third round, the Waratahs will host the Reds in Sydney at Forshaw Park with the results of both games to have a big impact on the competition.

In a bonus for rugby fans, the under 15 teams from both academies will play the curtain-raiser.

SUPER RUGBY U16 RD 2 WRAP, RESULTS, STANDOUTS

The Waratahs U16s recorded their second straight victory with the 51–9 win over the Melbourne Rebels at Box Hill. MATCH STARS, NEWS

Winger Reilly Caswell was one of the stars of the game with three tries with the Tahs young guns lead around with aplomb by captain Ed Baxter.

Another highlight was the exciting combination of Onitoni Large and Marcellus Iakopo in the centres

Max Tokava kicked all of the Rebels three penalty goals.

The depth of the Tahs side was exposed when replacements Callum Grantham and Matt Gough both scored tries in the second half.

It was the second week in a row the U16s have broken the half ton on the scoreboard.

The Queensland Reds U16s recorded the biggest win of the season to date with their extraordinary 71–14. Victory over Western Force.

It was their first game of the competition as the club had the first round bye.

The Reds shared the scoring around with Gray O’Neill and Brock Coombes both scoring two tries each.

Fly half Finn Mackay was stellar, nailing seven conversions for the Reds in another standout performance

The Waratahs U19s also recorded a big victory after their shock last minute loss to the ACT Brumbies in round one.

The Waratahs shared the scoring in a match which also showed the depth of the Tahs group.

There were three multiple scorers in Nacani Batidravu, Archie Tancred and captain Julian Caillol for the Tahs.

Others who collected five points were Ben Di Staso, Harry Davis, Omar Noureddine and Archie Saunders.

The U19s Reds had a much closer match, running out 35–27 victors at Ballymore.

But the Reds had to fight back from an early 15 point deficit to take the match in which both sides scored five tries each.

Joe Liddy and fly half Will Nason played a vital role in the comeback with the latter setting up Liddys match-clinching try.

Try-scoring machine Dylan Bronlund was a standout for Force.

It was the accurate boot of Ryley Bierton which made the difference for the Reds, with the young gun converting off every try.

STANDINGS AFTER RD 2 OF THE SUPER RUGBY U16, U19 SERIES

The Waratahs lead the U16s competition with two wins from two outings, followed by the Reds with a win from their only game.

Next is Force with one win from their two games, the Brumbies with a loss in their only match and the Rebels who are winless from two games.

In the under 19s, the Waratahs are a point ahead of Force, with both teams boasting a win and a loss.

The Reds are in third with one win from their one outing, with the Brumbies in fourth with a win from their only game.

The winless Rebels are in fifth place.

On Saturday, the ACT Brumbies host the Melbourne Rebels at Viking Park and on Sunday, the Waratahs and Queensland Reds will battle at Forshaw Rugby Park in Sydney’s south.
