Sky News host and The Courier-Mail columnist Peter Gleeson hosted the sold out event.
“Today is a day we look forward, look forward to what the next ten years looks like,” he said.
“We can’t bugger this up - future generations are relying on us to get it right.”
An expert panel featuring Ms Palaszczuk, University of Queensland Vice-Chancellor Deborah Terry, BOQ managing director George Frazis, Olympian Cate Campbell and The Star Entertainment Group’s chief operating officer Kelvin Dodt shared their thoughts on how Queensland can maximise the Games opportunity.
During the panel discussion, Ms Palaszczuk used her personal experience with watching an Olympic games to highlight what it could mean for Brisbane.
She said she watched in awe of the Barcelona Olympics, loving the city and the architecture and she put it on her list to visit.
Years later, she visited Barcelona.
"If it can have that impact on me, it's going to have an impact on millions of people around the world," she said.
"It's going to be phenomenal."
Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games chief Etienne Thobois delivered a keynote address live from the French capital to guests at the Royal International Convention Centre in Brisbane.
It follows The Courier-Mail’s Future Brisbane news series this month, which raised the prospect of South East Queensland becoming the Asia Pacific’s sport high performance hub and the need to deliver a heavy rail link to Maroochydore before 2032.
Sky News Queensland editor and News Corp columnist Peter Gleeson will MC the lunch and Hancock Prospecting executive chairman Gina Rinehart and News Corp Queensland managing director Jason Scott will deliver special addresses.
