Redlands Mayor Karen Williams has been granted a spot on the powerful Brisbane 2032 Olympic organising committee.
Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner announced his pick for the spot on Friday after earlier revealing it was between Cr Williams and Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding.
Both were in the running because legislation establishing the committee guarantees an equal gender mix on the board.
Cr Schrinner said the Redlands would be home to a 8000-seat capacity white water centre during the Games, which will become a training facility and adventure centre afterwards so her community has an important stake in ensuring the transport infrastructure needed.
“I’ve said repeatedly that there’s no time to waste when it comes to getting on with the job of delivering the Brisbane 2032 Games,” he said.
“Our Games may be over a decade away but it’s critical that we get started now if we’re going to deliver the best Olympics ever, one that leaves a lasting legacy for our city, our region and our state.”

Cr Williams said she had been on Brisbane’s Olympic “journey” since its beginning six years ago and was committed to securing the infrastructure southeast Queensland would need.
“The Brisbane 2032 Games are a once in a lifetime opportunity and we owe it to our communities to ensure it delivers a lasting positive legacy,” she said.
Cr Schrinner made his nomination in consultation with the Council of Mayors South East Queensland.
