Qld Olympic bid 'something to look forward to following shocking year'

OLYMPIC Games are traditionally named after the main host city, but under the International Olympic Committee’s ‘New Norm’, regions can now bid for staging rights.

The ‘New Norm’, designed to make hosting an Olympics affordable and deliver greater legacy benefits to the host, has paved the way for a Queensland bid.

The State Government’s decision to support the bid on Monday means the Sunshine State stands to benefit from the economic, employment and infrastructure benefits an Olympics could deliver.
