ON THE LINE: Walters bets on his whisperer
Gold Coast coach Garth Brennan is set to wield two dummy half options against Brisbane on Sunday with both Mitch Rein and the returning Nathan Peats demanding selection.
Rein has been one of few highlights in the Titans’ season so far with the former Dragon averaging just below 47 tackles and 57 run metres per game since Peats tore his pec in the gym prior to their Round 3 clash with South Sydney.
His willingness to run from the ruck base has been noted by Brennan but Peats’ big-game experience and leadership have been sorely missed, particularly during Gold Coast’s loss to North Queensland.
The painful loss still burns Rein, who is eager to turn the Titans’ fortune around at Suncorp Stadium.
“It’s another game we 100% should’ve won and we could’ve won,” Rein said of their two-point defeat.
“We had so many chance out there and we didn’t make the most of it — it’s just not up to standard.”
Where both players fit in to Brennan’s side will largely hinge on key forward Jai Arrow, who has been named to back up from Origin.
Jai Whitbread could be another casualty option and make way for Peats on the interchange with impact trio Shannon Boyd, Tyrone Peachey and Bryce Cartwright likely to retain their spots.
