WESTERN Australia’s Sports Minister Mick Murray has criticised the Australian Rugby Union for “bloody mindedness” and a secretive process to axe Western Force from Super Rugby.
A Senate Inquiry investigating the process has found the ARU supported the Melbourne Rebels with about $33 million, more than double what it gave the Perth-based Force when the latter had been more successful on and off the field.
“They made a decision and worked backwards to justify it... WA is not and has not been fairly represented or fairly treated, decisions have been made on the east coast, for the east coast,” Murray told the inquiry.
