BENJI Marshall will become the latest league player to make the switch to rugby union when he joins the Auckland Blues in 2014.

The Wests Tigers star has spoken about his desire to represent his native New Zealand, which if it eventuated would put him on a par with any number of ex-leaguies who have made their mark on the world stage in the 15-man code.

But who has been the best to date? From Broncos tackling machine Peter Ryan jumping ship to join the Brumbies back in 2000, to that most infamous of code switches - Sonny Bill Williams' departure from the Bulldogs that set him on the path to a World Cup triumph with the All Blacks - there have been any number of success stories.

We have whittled the list down to 13 code hoppers and it is over to you to vote on who has been the best league player to make the switch to rugby.

Timana Tahu: Former Knights centre played two seasons with the Waratahs and earned four Wallabies caps.

Joe Tomane: After stints at the Storm and Titans, found a home at the Brumbies and is now part of the Wallabies set-up.

Cooper Vuna: Ex-Knight joined the Rebels for their debut season and forced his way into Wallabies side for two Tests in 2012.

Andrew Walker: Supremely talented outside back played 7 Tests and won the 2001 Super 12 title with the Brumbies.

Berrick Barnes: Switched from Broncos to Queensland Reds before joining Waratahs. Has played 51 Tests including two World Cups.

Sonny Bill Williams: Left the NRL's Bulldogs for stints in France and Japan before joining the Crusaders and then the Chiefs. Played 19 Tests for the All Blacks, including the 2011 World Cup success.

Peter Ryan: Broncos veteran switched to the Brumbies in 2000 and enjoyed three fruitful years, including '01 Super 12 title.

Mat Rogers: Sharks and Maroons winger made high profile switch to Waratahs and played 45 Tests, including 2003 World Cup final.

Ryan Cross: Roosters centre played four seasons for the Force and one for the Waratahs, winning 18 Test caps in the process.

Wendell Sailor: Broncos legend joined the Reds and then the Waratahs and played 37 times for the Wallabies, including the 2003 World Cup final.

Lote Tuqiri: Another Broncos wing great who joined the Waratahs for seven seasons and 67 Tests for the Wallabies, including the 2003 and 2007 World Cups.

Brad Thorn: Switched to the Crusaders from the Broncos twice, and played 60 Tests for the All Blacks including the 2011 World Cup success.

Israel Folau: Storm and Broncos star switched to rugby after an AFL stint and made an immediate impact, racking up tries for the Waratahs and Wallabies in 2013.
