Rugby World Cup 2015: Australia smashes England scrum world record

WHO said Australia’s scrum was a weakness? A World Cup warning has been sent to England after smashing the record for the world’s largest scrum.

CROUCH-Bind-Se-e-e-e-t!

With those few words, a world record rugby scrum was packed on Saturday night with the careful bowing of more than 1200 heads in Sydney.

The mass turnout was a huge promotional winner for Fox Sports to trumpet their bumper coverage of the Rugby World Cup.

There will be a dedicated 24/7 Rugby World Cup channel in operation from September 14 to show all 48 matches live, along with extensive pre and post-match coverage and three rugby entertainment shows.

Former Wallabies hooker-turned-commentator Phil Kearns packed down at the head of Saturday’s boisterous 100m tunnel of bodies and former Wallabies halfback George Gregan obliged with a nearly-straight scrum feed.

Saturday’s fervour from broken nosed former props, 10-year-old hookers-to-be, mums, dads and eager kids with illegal binds at the scrum attempt was the perfect insight... rugby fans can’t wait for the World Cup.

The scrum numbers reached 1208 unofficially, more than enough to swamp the old English world record of 1008 bodies set at Twickenham last year.

None were happier to be involved than Ben Stewart, 13, and his 44 touring rugby mates from Tamworth’s Calrossy Anglican School who joined the world record attempt as a late extra to their Bledisloe Cup night out.

Fox Sports is going all out at the Rugby World Cup in England.

The dedicated World Cup channel will be the showpiece tournament’s one-stop home for Australian rugby fans.

John Eales, Tim Horan, Rod Kafer, Greg Martin, Kearns and Gregan offer a combined 393 Wallabies Tests and the insight of eight World Cup campaigns as part of the commentary team beside respected voices Greg Clark and Nick McArdle.

The rugby channel will be available for free to Foxtel sports subscribers as part of their existing package.

“This is a huge win for rugby fans,” said Fox Sports chief executive Patrick Delany.

“Not only will viewers get to watch every match of the Wallabies and the other 19 nations compete for the Webb Ellis Trophy but they will be treated to the biggest and most dynamic coverage available.”
