Popular Wallaby Will Genia will get a farewell to remember when he steps out for the final occasion and the best bit for him is it will be at the stadium he still calls home.

Champion halfback Will Genia will farewell his most devoted fans at Suncorp Stadium on July 27 now he has set his retirement date from Test rugby.

Genia, 31, will play club rugby in Japan next year but has announced his time as a Wallaby will be up at the end of the World Cup.

The 100-Test spark is well above the 60-Test threshold to be selected from abroad under the “Giteau Law” yet feels a clean cut is the best way to sign-off.

Billing for the July 27 Test against Argentina in Brisbane must be pitched under the banner #FillforWill to give the popular little schemer the final rugby memory in Queensland he deserves.

“There’s a whole bunch of young Australian halfbacks that are very good and there’s experienced ones too with Nic White back now,” Genia said.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing the guys come through next year, especially the two young Queensland Reds boys (Tate McDermott and Moses Sorovi).

“I say it to the Reds boys now but Suncorp Stadium is still my home. That’s the most special place I’ve played footy.

Will Genia says his farewell Test will be “incredibly special and very emotional.”

“If I’m fortunate enough to be playing in the Test match there against Argentina in a couple of weeks that would be incredibly special and very emotional.”

Genia has been a Melbourne Rebel for the past two seasons in Super Rugby but he returns to live in Brisbane at season end. That deep link with Suncorp Stadium flows back to where he first watched big games as a schoolboy and played his first Super Rugby in 2007.

Genia has been repairing a knee ligament tweak since entering a Wallabies’ hopefuls camp last month.

He feels he will be good to go for the opening Test of the year against South Africa in Johannesburg on July 20.

“From a team perspective this year, we want to start building momentum leading into the World Cup and obviously that starts during The Rugby Championship,” Genia said.

“From a personal perspective, I want to just enjoy it. It seems like just yesterday I walked into Wallabies camp at aged 21 and now I’m 31.”
