HE only played 40 minutes but Tolu Latu was a stand-out performer for the Wallabies in their 20-16 loss to Ireland at Allianz Stadium.

The Waratahs hooker is sure to get the starting call for Australia’s next Test against New Zealand in August.

See who else starred and who struggled in our player ratings.

Israel Folau - 7

Plenty of variety to the fullback’s game. Used out wide running but also in mid-field where a second half pass put Samu Kerevi away. Dubious yellow card call contesting a high ball:

Dane Haylett-Petty - 7.5

A terrific winger’s game. Great football sense with his inside step and spin move always earning ground.

Samu Kerevi - 6.5

One big second half bust and smashed Johnny Sexton when the Wallabies defence went up in voltage.

Kurtley Beale - 7

Two superb ground-gaining kicks in the first half and a multi-skilled asset always with passing and darting.

Marika Koroibete - 7

Superb try from the left winger who appeared on the right side of the field to grab a Foley kick. Bumping 10m run to finish.

Bernard Foley - 6

Lovely kick to create Koroibete try but big Irish defence gave him little room. Two difficult passes on his bootlaces spilt and missed a late penalty goal.

Nick Phipps - 6

Solid service for 60 minutes but without the sniping threat of a Will Genia. One heart-flutter pass on his tryline.

David Pocock - 7.5

Two classic turnovers in the first half, herculean workload in defence from the backrower and in tight plus plenty of leadership.

Michael Hooper - 5

Rare for the indestructible skipper to last just 16 minutes before Irish cleanout tweaked his hamstring. Frustrated spectator.

Lukhan Tui - 6.5

Try-saving tackle on Irish prop Jack McGrath two metres out and plenty of ball-carries that would have been more effective with lower body height.

Adam Coleman - 6

Plenty of graft and a lineout steal. When he damaged his leg the Irish immediately threw to his position at the back of the lineout to clinically grab their try.

Izack Rodda - 6

Solid workload without a big gallop or thumping hit to standout. A sure lineout target.

Sekope Kepu - 6

Strong scrum leader for his 56 minutes. Plenty of work in the hand-to-hand combat and jolted Jonny Sexton early.

Brandon Paenga-Amosa - 5

Dropped off two tackles in the first half. Solid at set piece time:

Scott Sio - 5.5

Effort in the front-row. Scrum and lineout were reliable when he was on. Rating: 5.5

Reserves:

Tolu Latu - 8

Standout as replacement hooker with strong runs, flick off-loads, a buckling tackle on Rob Kearney and a forced penalty. Will start in next Test.

Tom Robertson - 6

One nice run and part of Wallabies’ second half surge and key scrum shove to earn a penalty.

Taniela Tupou - 6

Strong again off the bench. A spark. Bullocking metres with the ball and the prop was a huge part of earning a scrum penalty;

Rob Simmons - 6

Workmanlike when he came on for Coleman to organise lineout. Accurate breakdown work.

Ned Hanigan - N/A

A few minutes at the end.

Pete Samu - 5.5

Joined the fray in the second half and looks at home at this level. Gave away a cheap three points with a needless ruck penalty.

Joe Powell - 6

Sped up the delivery of ball and had a nice 20-minute cameo.

Reece Hodge - N/A

Little to do in his 12 minutes.
