All Blacks join queue to chat with Wallabies target Dave Rennie about vacant coaching role

Dave Rennie may be the frontrunner for the vacant Wallabies job but Australia isn’t the only one keen on his services, and if they dither too long they may find themselves looking at a Plan B or even C.

Glasgow coach Dave Rennie said it was “flattering and humbling” to have been approached to take charge of the All Blacks.

The 55-year-old Kiwi is one of a number of candidates likely to be interviewed to replace Steve Hansen who will leave his role as New Zealand head coach after Friday’s World Cup third-place play-off against Wales.

He’s also high on the list of replacements for outgoing Wallabies coach Michael Cheika, with some sources saying his move to Australia ‘is a done deal’.

“Obviously it’s flattering, it’s humbling (to be associated with New Zealand) because they have always been such a great side,” Rennie said.

“Yeah, they have probably made contact with a number of Kiwis who are coaching over this way about interest for the role.

“I know they are going to have a process where they interview then make an appointment in the new year.”

Rennie has previously stated he will see out his Glasgow contract, which expires in June 2020.
