THEIR first taste of 10-a-side rugby was an enjoyable one, but flanker Jordy Reid says it will be all business for the Melbourne Rebels on Sunday as they attempt to make the quarterfinals in Brisbane.

THEIR first taste of 10-a-side rugby was an enjoyable one, but flanker Jordy Reid says it will be all business for the Melbourne Rebels on Sunday as they attempt to make the quarterfinals in Brisbane.

The Rebels split their first two games of the Global Tens tournament at Suncorp Stadium on Saturday, first defeating the Waikato Chiefs 19-5 before falling 17-12 to the Panasonic Wild Knights from Japan.

The Melbourne side takes on the NSW Waratahs in Sunday’s opening game, with a win likely to take it through to the knockout stage.

With the Wild Knights recording two wins Saturday and the Chiefs one, the result in the game between those two sides will also have a bearing on the fate of the Rebels.

Scorching temperatures are again forecast for Brisbane.

But should they advance beyond the pool stage, the Rebels could play as many as four games today.

“I’m sure if we do make the final there’ll be a few tired legs,” Reid said.

“But hopefully we do — we’re here to win.

“We’ll put everything in against the Waratahs to get us in to the quarters and then from there we’re going to try and go as deep as we can.”

The loss to the Wild Knights aside, the only real negative for the Rebels was a nasty rib injury to fullback Jonah Placid suffered in game two.

Despite the heat, Reid gave the new format a tick.

“It’s been quite a success, all the boys have been really excited about playing and the crowd was really in to it,” he said.

“I think the rugby was really exciting. There was more space than the 15s, but there still is a bit of structure to it.

“Still I think the idea was to throw the ball around and express yourself and have a bit of fun.”
