WINGER Lachie Mitchell's upbeat season for the Melbourne Rebels is over after his one-match suspension for a lifting tackle on British and Irish Lions winger Simon Zebo.
Today's ruling on a second half tackle during the Rebels' 35-0 loss to the tourists in Melbourne last night means Mitchell is a scratching from the final Super Rugby match of the season against the Highlanders at AAMI Park on July 12.
Mitchell was cited for the lifting tackle in the 52nd minute of last night's match.
"After reviewing all of the evidence I concluded that Lachlan Mitchell had lifted and dropped Simon Zebo when that player's feet were still off the ground causing Simon Zebo's upper body to come into contact with the ground," Judicial Officer Nigel Hampton QC said.
"I found that the incident was clearly at the lowest level for this offence."
A four-match suspension is possible for a breach at that level but Hampton took into account Mitchell's good on-field record and the lower-level nature of the offence.
