ISRAEL Folau has declared that breaking the Waratahs’ record for most tries in a season by one player next weekend against defending champions the Chiefs is the “perfect scenario”.
The try-scoring freak equalled Peter Hewat’s long-standing record of 10 tries in a season by crossing in NSW’s 41-19 demolition of Melbourne on Friday, and with four regular season games remaining Folau looks poised to smash it.
Hewat set the record in 2005, when NSW made the semi-finals, while Folau’s 10 tries have come from just nine appearances in 2014, taking his overall tally to 18 tries from 22 games for the Tahs.
The Wallaby fullback could break the record next Saturday when NSW take on the Chiefs.
“It would be the perfect scenario, if I happen to get across the line next week, it would be awesome,” Folau told The Sunday Telegraph.
“It will be huge for me; the NSW Waratahs are a huge club, and a proud one. To get your name written down in the history books of a great club like the Tahs, and to have your name remembered for a long time, is a huge honour.
“Off the back of some good footy from the team I’ve been able to cross the line and get 10 tries this year.”
