QUIET achievers Churchie have uncovered a fullback in the most unlikely of places with Darwin-bred Wayne Bilston on the rise in GPS schools rugby.
Churchie 27 bt State High 10
The easy speed and step that beat three defenders on full-time for a signature try will not be the last calling card left by Churchie fullback Wayne Bilston.
The Indigenous talent is new to the school as a Year 11 boarder and is growing in confidence with every game.
Bilston dabbled in rugby league, rugby and Australian Rules in the Northern Territory and his elusive moves are a raw fit for any code.
Churchie has racked up a four-win streak as one of the premiership’s most disciplined teams by playing to strengths as a strong pick-and-drive team with resolute defence.
New hooker Aidan King was industrious and prop partners Ben Ryan and Max Drummond both scored tries from close range.
State High had their chances to rally after a neat Francis Pona grubber-and-regather try plus the wind at their backs in the second half but couldn’t finish off chances.
Flanker Wian Joubert had a busy game but, unfortunately, the attack will be without winger Grant Tuisamoa (dislocated shoulder) for the rest of the season.
Nudgee College 36 bt Brisbane Grammar 14
Year 10 flyer Trezman Banjo has picked a fine role model at Nudgee in Jangala Bennet because the pair are matching each other for sidesteps and tries.
Bennet’s two tries were decisive while Banjo’s sizzling left-foot step to set up his own was even more eye-catching.
Forward Matthew Engelbrecht was part of a productive Nudgee backrow with Bailey Tautau and Tom Campbell.
The front-on defence of Nudgee centre Josh Flook was outstanding while Grammar prop Emile Tuimavave was a running, off-loading and tackling standard for his team.
The Southport School 60 bt Terrace 45
Conor has now moved to the Spinal Unit and yesterday he had his first gym session. He may have had harder gym sessions in the past but this one made us the proudest. #GoConor #conortweedy pic.twitter.com/Gt4iP1ohdo

The three-try support play of No. 8 Reno Gerrard, rumbling steamroller Zane Nonggorr, centre Ronan Kapi and cool controller Campbell Parata were the core of this try-fest for TSS.
Great credit to Terrace for challenging non-stop with no Will Roach (ankle).
Replacements like centre Ben Hearne stepping up with two tries as TSS were challenged out wide.
Brisbane Boys’ College 43 bt Toowoomba Grammar 12
An excellent bounce-back win from BBC with strong showings from two-try centre Jack Howarth and kick-chaser supreme Shayden Stevens, who bagged two himself.
The speed on the edges caught out Toowoomba Grammar, who had prop George Perry leading the way in defence in the middle.
