Aidan Toua ruled out of Queensland Reds Super 15 trial against Melbourne Rebels

THE fickle hamstrings of dasher Aidan Toua have ruled him out of the Queensland Reds trial against the Rebels at Ballymore on Friday night.

THE fickle hamstrings of dasher Aidan Toua have again conspired to rub him out of the Queensland Reds trial against the Melbourne Rebels at Ballymore on Friday night.

After his superb 40-minute introduction to the new season in last weekend’s trial win over the champion Chiefs, coach Richard Graham had pencilled the lithe mover in for a second start at fullback to press his claims there.

Toua trained well at Ballymore on Monday but soreness in the hamstring by Tuesday saw him miss the full training day.

“Aidan trained really well on Monday but sat out Tuesday. While we don’t think it is serious, he is having a scan today,” Graham said.

In Toua’s absence, Lachie Turner has won the chance to impress for the No.15 jersey in the starting line-up.

The Reds have picked a strong side with tweaks in the front-row, back three and centres from the starting line-up that set up the strong 31-20 win over the Chiefs in Toowoomba last weekend.

Veteran Greg Holmes gets a chance at tight-head prop with James Slipper moving to loosehead. In the backs, Mike Harris and Chris Feauai-Sautia are paired in the centres.

After an excellent recovery from a knee reconstruction, Rod Davies is on the wing to show his speed and elusiveness.

Reds: L Turner, D Shipperley, C Feauai-Sautia, M Harris, R Davies, Q Cooper, W Genia, J Schatz, L Gill, E Quirk, J Horwill (c), R Simmons, G Holmes, S Faingaa, J Slipper. Res: B Daley, J Hanson, J Owen, B Enever/ D McDuling, C Browning, N Frisby, A Faingaa, B Tapuai, C Kuridrani, J-J Taulagi
