X Games Osaka: Australian skaters Arisa Trew, Chloe Covell claim gold

Gold Coast teens Chloe Covell and Arisa Trew have lit up the X Games Osaka, claiming gold as one of the teen pair closes in onan incredible third medal double at the age of 15.

Australian Olympic skaters Arisa Trew and Chloe Covell both need to find more room in their trophy cabinets — winning the street and vertical categories at X-Games Osaka.

Trew, who won gold in the Park event at the Paris Olympics, finished first in the Vertical event – executing a slick series of tricks on the half-pipe to take first place with a best run of 87.66.

It is Trew’s first win on the X-Games circuit this year but her sixth in her career.

But Trew went into the competition full of confidence after winning silver in the WST Park World Cup event in Rome a fortnight ago.

The 15-year-old still has another event to go, the women’s skateboard park tomorrow afternoon.

It will be a tough competition with six of the eight competitors Olympians – including Hiraki Cocona and Sky Brown – who filled the remaining spots on the podium behind Trew in Paris.

If Trew pulls off a gold medal performance in that event it will be the third time she has won the double at he X-Games.

Gold Coaster Chloe Covell, who also competed at the Paris Olympics but in the Street event, cruised to first place in the women’s skateboard street – her best run earning 90 points.

Her very technical run earned big praises from the judges and fans alike with some dubbing her the “goat”.

It comes off the back of her World Skateboarding Tour win in Rome last week.

Both Trew and Covell will be back in action at the X-Games Salt Lake City next weekend.
