Australian basketballer Patty Mills nails incredible trick shot, kicking a football into basketball hoop from beyond half court

PATTY Mills can do plenty of tricks with a basketball but this incredible trick shot with a football from beyond half court might be his best. WATCH THE VIDEO

AUSTRALIAN Boomers and San Antonio point guard Patty Mills can do plenty of tricks with a basketball but the Australian has shown he can also pull them off with a Sherrin.

Mills grew up playing both basketball and football and was more than handy at both before choosing to focus on hoops — a decision that would see him drafted by Portland in the NBA before crossing to the Spurs in 2012.

In a Tissot NBA v AFL challenge, Mills and fellow Australian NBA player Joe Ingles did battle against Hawthorn’s Jarryd Roughead and Western Bulldog Marcus Bontempelli, taking them on in a three-point challenge and some two on two.

But Mills reigned supreme over all of them when he kicked a miraculous drop punt trick shot from beyond half court and outside the sideline into the ring. Amazing.

Mills was the recipient of a full-time basketball scholarship with the Australian Institute of Sport after a promising young basketballer dropped out to pursue an AFL career.

That young man was Scott Pendlebury who has gone of to become of the AFL’s elite midfielders and a premiership player and captain at Collingwood, while Mills has won an NBA championship with the Spurs.

Mills will lead the Boomers at the Rio Olympics in August after top scoring for Australia at the 2012 London games.
