It was a thrilling third edition of the Strike League men’s competition with plenty of big names shining bright in the five-week campaign.
Desert Blaze captain Angus Lovell led his side to the title and was among the top 10 performers from the Darwin tournament.
Captains from the other franchises including Sam Heazlett, Jason Sangha, Max Bryant and Ryan King also finished among the top performers.
Blaze spinning all-rounder Jarrod Freeman took the most wickets from the tournament with 26 and Heazlett finished as the leading runs scorer with 469.
Freeman came away with the best bowling figures with 6-41 from 9.1 overs against City Cyclones in Round 7.
Northern Tide batter Douwtjie Hoogenboezem produced the highest individual score with 150 against Cyclones in Round 3.
Overall, there were eight centuries and two five-wicket hauls from 21 matches which included 10 one-dayers and 11 T20’s.
There were 7,423 runs scored and 297 wickets taken. The highest team score was 6-332 and the lowest score was 10-92.
Victorious Blaze coach Shane Jurgensen praised the efforts of Freeman throughout the tournament saying his ability to adapt had been a game changer.
“He’s bowled beautifully throughout the competition and brings very good changes of pace,” Jurgensen said.
“He reads the game very well as well as the situation and adapts accordingly.
“The players that have played really well in this tournament have adapted to the conditions because all the wickets we’ve played on have different characteristics.
“And to see him change his game to work on those different wickets shows how good he has been throughout this tournament.”
The Strike League winning coach said the tournament was a great opportunity for young players to come up and test their skills in the summer off-season.
“It’s a fantastic opportunity for these players to come up and play in quite unique conditions you generally don’t see,” he said.
“The opportunity for players to come up here and work on their game while staying in Australia and being in conditions which are almost subcontinent like is great.
“NT Cricket have put on a great tournament and I’m surrounded by great coaches whether in my own team or those who have come up to coach other sides.
“Our players have enjoyed mixing with guys from other states to get different perspectives, and once you have those relationships you have those friendships forever.
“It will be a fantastic opportunity for players from all around Australia to come up here and broaden their horizons not just in cricket but in life.”
