Wests Tigers winger Pat Richards out to impress NSW State of Origin coach Laurie Daley

IN-FORM Wests Tigers winger Pat Richards will be out to impress NSW coach Laurie Daley against the Parramatta Eels.

HE is big, strong, experienced and kicks goals. And now Wests Tigers winger Pat Richards is a genuine chance of jagging a spot in the NSW State of Origin side.

With Brett Morris almost certain to retain his wing position, Richards is battling the likes of Jorge Taufua, Daniel Tupou, James McManus, Akuila Uate and Will Hopoate for the other spot.

Wests Tigers coach Mick Potter on Sunday admitted Richards had been “great” this season, but when asked about the 32-year-old’s chances to debut in Origin I, Potter said: “It’s not for me to say - I don’t know what Laurie (Daley, NSW coach) is thinking.

“But Pat has been good for us. He has got a lot of plusses and is doing a great job.

“He certainly has some things going for him that could help NSW but there are a lot of good wingers around at the moment.”

Richards has another chance to impress in Monday’s big game against Parramatta.

“We are looking at all options,” Daley said.

Potter said his side was excited to be playing in such a massive match at ANZ Stadium.

“It’s good to have Parramatta winning more than they are losing,” Potter said.

“That’s good for the game and we are in the same boat.

“With Jarryd Hayne there at fullback, they will be hard to contain. Chris Sandow is unpredictable and they have plenty of off-loads in their forwards.

“Our forwards will have to be at their best.”
