WESTS Tigers have continued their mid-season resurgence with a stunning 22-4 upset over the Melbourne Storm.

Three wins in their last four matches had lifted the Tigers off the foot of the ladder before tonight's game at a soaked Leichhardt Oval. But few gave them a realistic chance against the second-placed Storm.

Melbourne crossed the line first through centre Maurice Blair, but tries from Tim Simona and Blake Ayshford gave the Tigers a 10-4 lead at half-time.

Benji Marshall added a penalty goal in the 48th minute to stretch the advantage, before the home side came home strongly with late tries to Marshall and David Nofoaluma.

Both teams had plenty of motivation tonight. The Tigers were languishing in 15th place on the ladder before the game, and Melbourne was looking to rebound from an 18-12 loss to the Titans last week.

The Storm's loss means the Sydney Roosters could leapfrog Melbourne into second place, should they beat Manly in their Monday night blockbuster.
